Waterloo, Ont. startup aims to change boating with ‘flying’ electric vessel
ENVGO, a Waterloo-based startup founded by aerospace and robotics engineers, is developing the NV1 electric hydrofoiling boat using aerospace-style flight control systems to lift the hull out of the water and reduce drag. The company says this approach makes the vessel 3–4 times more efficient than conventional planing boats while also improving speed, range, and ease of operation.
The NV1, a 25-foot, six-passenger electric cruiser, uses hydrofoils and automated systems such as auto-docking and obstacle detection, with seed funding now supporting testing, production planning, and marine industry partnerships as ENVGO prepares for early customer sea trials.
